Stefano read law at the University of  Rome and, after a two-year traineeship within a law firm in Florence, he took the Bar Exam and qualified as an avvocato in Italy. He then worked as an in-house counsel for a major Italian pharmaceutical company for five years, and he subsequently joined the legal department of DuPont de Nemours, a multinational chemical company. At DuPont, he has advised several subsidiaries and various business units in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He was initially based in Italy and then he was called at the European Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. He then moved to the External Affairs department of Dupont where he worked as Director Governmental Affairs (Europe) both in Brussels and Geneva, and he eventually returned to the Legal department.

Stefano was until recently working as General Counsel for the DuPont Safety & Construction Business Unit within the Europe, Middle East and Africa Region.  He was responsible for legal compliance of the business units in these regions and he coordinated the work of his colleagues based in the Middle East, Africa and Black Sea countries on general corporate matters.

His most recent practice focused on compliance, general corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, including divestitures and joint ventures. In addition, he dealt with all aspects of conflicts management and disputes settlement.

He is a former President and currently board member of the Geneva based Association of International Business lawyers (AIBL), and he is an active member in several other professional and trade associations including being a member of the European Advisory Board of the New York based Conflict Prevention and Resolution International Institute.

He recently formed his own firm, Calimala Legal, in Geneva where is also active as Adjunct Professor on International Business Law at Webster University in addition to giving lectures on the same subject at various other Universities.
