Competition culture in emerging economies

With the EBRD, the Italian Competition Authority (AGCM) and the World Bank

European Bank
The World Bank

Educating all constituencies in a country to competition principles is of vital importance to create a receptive ground and societal pressure for pro-competitive reforms, and create incentives for policy-makers to endorse socially desirable policies. Moreover, widespread awareness of competition principles can help reduce anti-competitive conduct by innovating social norms. Emerging competition authorities often find themselves operating in contexts characterized by sub-optimal levels of competition culture, and it is also up to them to undertake initiatives aimed at boosting it.
