Elisabetta (Betta) Righini is a partner in the Antitrust & Competition Practice of Latham & Watkins. Her practice covers State aid, EU regulation and international trade. Before joining Latham in 2015, she spent 15 years at the Commission and, for her last 5 years, she was the Legal and Policy Advisor to the former EU Competition Commissioner and Vice-President Joaquín Almunia, for whom she followed specifically State aid and energy issues. Prior to this assignment she was a member of the Commission Legal Service where she handled a wide range of EU legal issues notably in the area of international relations, WTO, State aid, environment, and internal market. She brings valuable insight into EU Commission policy formulation and enforcement practice. Her in-depth experience and unique State aid and EU regulatory expertise has attracted many clients with issues in a range of industries including the automotive, consumer products, energy, and audiovisual sectors. Betta is also a Visiting professor at the Centre of European Law of King’s College in London, where she teaches State aid law.
