Villa Sospisio

Villa Sospisio

Thursday 28th September h. 20:00 (CET)

Villa Sospisio is a unique residence located in the heart of Trastevere in Rome.

The history of this place, probably dating back to the 18th century, has never been clear. The first owners and the architect remain unknown, but it is believed to have a connection with the gardens of Villa Alibert and the gardens of the nearby Palazzo Salviati on Lungara.

The known history of Villa Sospisio begins when Guya Sospisio discovers this villa in the heart of Trastevere. It is a wooden house surrounded by dense vegetation of shrubs and bushes. As soon as Guya sees the property, she recognizes its beauty and potential. She makes her way through the bushes with a sickle and reaches the significant 17th-century fountain. Guya falls in love with the authenticity of the place and decides to acquire it at any cost. Over the years, this dwelling becomes Villa Sospisio thanks to Guya’s hands. The beautiful nymphaeum remains at the center of the property, adorned with a fountain and a basin with limestone walls.

The entrance is a wooden door that conceals the surprising villa. Upon entering, you will find yourself in a glassed-in courtyard, the adjacent winter garden next to the nymphaeum. From the garden, a steep staircase leads directly to the upper terraces. The Italian Garden enchants with its sunny colors: the yellow jasmines, the purple of wisteria, bougainvillea, red, pink, and the scents of citrus blossoms. There are also laurels, ivy, palm trees, and peach blossoms. The garden borders with the Botanical Gardens of Rome, which descend towards Lungara, and it enjoys excellent exposure.

Without a doubt, Villa Sospisio is one of those hidden places in Rome that leaves you speechless.
