Chiara Bonassi

Senior Economist, Italian Competition Authority (AGCM)

Chiara Bonassi is a Senior Economist of Italian Competition Authority. She currently works at the Chief Economist Office where she supports the enforcement Directorates in the assessment of anticompetitive effects of mergers, unilateral conduct, cartels.

She has gained an extensive experience in quantitative methods applied to competition and has been involved in several mergers and antitrust cases in many sectors, including the digital markets.

Chiara Bonassi joined the ICA in January 2009. From September 2023 to May 2023 she was member of the Cabinet of the Commissioner Prof.ssa Elisabetta Iossa. Previously, she worked at the Chief Economist Unit (2017- September 2023) and at the Directorate General for Competition – Energy and Environment, where she was case handler in many investigations on electricity markets, road fuels and waste sector. (2009-2017).

She has also been involved in twinning projects with other European Antitrust Agencies.

Among previous works, she held a research position at the Italian Foreign Trade Commission.

She received her Undergraduate Degree (Economics of International Institutions) from Bocconi University (Milan, Italy), Master of Science (Economics) from University of Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain) and PhD (International Economics) from Bocconi University.  She has held a research assistant positions at the Bocconi University.
